The Offshore Institute

The Offshore Institute exists to serve its members in two ways. Firstly, to provide the highest possible standards in developing educational programmes in offshore financial subjects and secondly to provide a forum for an interchange of information on common issues facing practitioners and governments in offshore jurisdictions. Since its formation in 1989 by Peter Redmond, a distinguished British legal educationalist. The Institute has gone through an evolutionary process and now offers both direct and indirect services to members. These include:-

Direct

  • The provision of technical updates together with views and news on themes of current importance in the offshore financial world, presented in a highly professional and accessible format in The Institute's own official publication Shore to Shore;

  • Sponsorship of a postgraduate conference at Oxford University and negotiation of members' discounts at commercially administered conferences and seminars, which are directed both to the professional actively involved in offshore finance and to those professionals "onshore" who seek to broaden their knowledge of offshore matters to enable them to enhance the services they provide to their clients;

  • Assisting in the provision of "in house" programmes on topics of immediate concern to members;

  • Links with a number of academic institutions to facilitate the dissemination of research findings to members; and

  • The ability of members to network via The Institute with qualified professionals in other jurisdictions.

    Indirect

  • Representations to government and regulatory bodies about relevant issues;

  • Presentations to relevant onshore bodies to enhance understanding of the offshore world; and

  • Attempts to combat misinformation in the media about the offshore world.

    The Institute has members in both onshore and offshore jurisdictions and is dedicated to assisting them to develop themselves and the jurisdiction where they are located and, via its unique networking capability, the potential to do so is immense.
